The HID OCR316-E USB OCR Swipe Reader with MSR is designed for fast, accurate identity document reading and magnetic stripe card processing in Qatar. Its compact design supports customer registration, identity verification, travel processing, and other document-based workflows in government offices, financial institutions, airports, hotels, and retail environments.
The reader uses optical character recognition (OCR) to capture machine-readable zones (MRZs) from compatible passports, visas, residence permits, and national identity cards. It supports ICAO 9303-compliant travel documents with two-line and three-line MRZs, as well as compatible ISO 18013 driving licences with a one-line MRZ. Bidirectional reading helps users scan supported documents in either direction, while the single-slot design helps position passports and identity cards for consistent reading.
In addition to OCR, the OCR316-E integrates a three-track magnetic stripe reader (MSR) compliant with ISO 7811/2-5. It can read compatible magnetic stripe cards, including credit cards, debit cards, loyalty cards, and frequent-flyer cards. This combined functionality supports workflows that require both identity document data and magnetic card information.
The device connects through a USB 2.0 Full-Speed interface and offers USB HID, virtual serial through CDC, and keyboard-wedge communication options. It supports Windows 7 and later, Android, and Linux, subject to application and system compatibility. Visual LED indicators and an audible beeper provide feedback for successful and unsuccessful reads, while flash-upgradeable software supports firmware updates.
Measuring approximately 150 × 44 × 45 mm and weighing around 200 g, the OCR316-E has a dark-grey ABS housing. It can operate as a standalone reader or be mounted on a desk or compatible monitor using optional mounting brackets.
