RTX 4060 Ti: Is It Worth the Upgrade?

In the fast-paced world of graphics processing units (GPUs), technological advancements occur rapidly, and new models are released regularly. NVIDIA, a pioneer in the field, has been consistently pushing the boundaries of gaming graphics with its RTX series. Nvidia's RTX 4070 was just recently unveiled, but rumors indicate that Team Green is already hard at work on another GPU, the RTX 4060 Ti.

VideoCardz claims launch details. The GeForce RTX 4060 Ti is expected to be announced by NVIDIA in late May. According to VideoCardz, NVIDIA will offer the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti a few days after launch. After shipping GeForce RTX 4060 Ti cards to partners on May 5, expect further leaks. If these specifications are correct, the performance should be slightly greater than the previous-generation RTX 3070.

The GPU may be substantially cheaper than the RTX 4070, but even that price reduction may not be enough to make it competitive with some of the other top graphics cards. Gamers and enthusiasts are waiting that whether the upgrade to the RTX 4060 Ti is worth it or not. In this blog, we will delve into the features and improvements of the RTX 4060 Ti and help you decide whether the upgrade is justified.

NVIDIA RTX 4060 Ti Price Speculations

The RTX 4060 Ti is expected to cost $450 USD when released. The GPU will be cheaper than expected, according to reports. The RTX 40-series high-end has a price increase, so we hope the mid-range to follow likewise. $450 seems high for a GPU that will likely stay at 1080p. AMD's RX 6700 XT, which costs $370 on Amazon, can probably match Nvidia's performance without DLSS 3.

NVIDIA Geforce RTX 4060 Ti, Specs

The sources indicate that the RTX 4060 Ti will employ the same 5nm AD106 GPU as Nvidia is using for RTX 4070 gaming PC version. The RTX 4060 Ti will include 4,352 CUDA cores. We're probably looking at a clock speed of 2,535MHz, which is sufficient.

Nvidia may limit the RTX 4060 Ti to 8GB of VRAM on a 128-bit bus, which is becoming a bottleneck in triple-A 1080p games. A 128-bit bus and GDDR6 VRAM give the card 22 TFLOPs (FP32) and 288 GB/s bandwidth.

With DLSS 3 support, the RTX 4060 Ti should be comparable to the 3070. The card's TDP, or thermal design power, will be 150–160W, 25% lower than the RTX 3060 Ti. The 192-bit GeForce RTX 4070 contains 46 SMs (5,888 CUDA cores) and 12 GB of GDDR6X memory. The RTX 4060 Ti's narrow 128-bit memory interface and GDDR6 memory limit its memory bandwidth to 288 GB/sec, compared to the RTX 4070's 504 GB/s. Even the previous GeForce RTX 3060 Ti had a 256-bit memory interface, 448 GB/s memory bandwidth, and 8 GB memory.

As a dual-slot card, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Ti draws power from a single 12-pin power connector, with a maximum power draw of 160 W, which 20% less than its predecessor. One HDMI 2.1 and three DisplayPort 1.4a outputs are available for displaying outputs. PCI-Express 4.0 x16 links the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti to the rest of the system. With dual-slot cooling, the card measures 336 mm x 140 mm x 61 mm.

One of the key highlights of the RTX 4060 Ti is its enhanced ray-tracing capabilities. Building upon the RTX 30 series' success, the 4060 Ti offers improved ray tracing performance, delivering more realistic and visually stunning gaming environments. Shadows, reflections, and lighting effects are more accurate and lifelike, immersing players in a captivating virtual world.

The GeForce RTX 4060 Ti is also anticipated to have a 36% lower DRAM bandwidth than its direct predecessor, the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti, with GDDR6 memory and a 43% lower memory bandwidth compared to that of the GeForce RTX 4070. The additional L2 cache might aid in comparison to the 30-series, but there is still a significant gap between the 4060 Ti and the 4070. It also has just 8GB of memory, which is the same as the 3060 Ti, 3070, and 3070 Ti (but less than the 3060). It is still yet to be seen how this may influence its performance at high resolutions and/or with antialiasing turned on.

RTX 4060 Ti supports DirectX 12 Ultimate (12). OpenGL 4.6 vector graphics on the RTX 4060 Ti improve animation responsiveness. GPU OpenCL 3.0. Vulkan 1.3 provides cross-platform, high-efficiency GPU access. CUDA 8.9 lets software use multiple GPUs on RTX 4060 Ti graphics cards. Shader Model 6.7 powers RTX 4060 Ti.
