The mini-ITX form factor of the ROG Strix Z490-I Gaming can support up to 64GB of DDR4 RAM over two slots, or 32GB per slot at speeds of up to 4800 MHz. For storage, there are four SATA III 6 Gb/s ports and two M.2 2280 slots, both of which support SATA and PCIe 3.0 x4 SSDs.

There is also one USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port (rear panel), three USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports (rear panel), two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports (rear panel), two USB 2.0 Type-A ports (rear panel), one USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C connector (front panel), plus additional internal USB headers that support USB 3.2 Gen 1 and USB 2.0. For those looking to expand their system using PCIe, there is one PCIe 3.0 x16 SafeSLot. For delivering sharp, clear graphics, this motherboard has integrated HDMI 2.0a and DisplayPort 1.4 outputs.

Using the ROG SupremeFX S1220 HD audio codec, the ROG Strix Z490-I Gaming can support audio with higher fidelity than standard controllers.
